Antique metal baskets perfect to gather and display items. Each basket has its own unique numbered tab and inscribed with "Kasper Wire Works, Shiner, Texas." The baskets were found in a church cupboard, hidden away for years and in like new condition. Measures approximately 14" Long x 9" Wide x 8" Tall.

About the Locker Basket
Locker baskets came out of an entirely practical problem: how do you store the clothes of two hundred people in a factory, a swimming bath or a barracks without giving each of them a cupboard. The answer was a shallow wire or metal basket on a rack, numbered, with a handle at one end so it could be lifted out in a single motion. The design barely changed for fifty years because there was nothing left to improve.
What survives now is usually the metal-framed version with a mesh or slatted base, still carrying its number plate and the paint the institution chose. They stack, they let air through, and they show their contents — three properties that make them unexpectedly good in a modern house. Use them open on shelving for towels and linen, on a hallway rack for gloves and dog leads, or under a bench for shoes.
Check the handle rivets before you load one heavily; a hundred years of lifting eventually works them loose and they are simple to replace. Otherwise the maintenance is nothing at all. Original paint is thin and chalky and should be left exactly as it is, since stripping it removes both the number and the reason the basket is interesting in the first place.
Baskets are priced individually but they look considerably better in threes and fives, so if you are buying for shelving tell us how many you need and we will hold matching numbers back. Original number plates are part of the appeal and we never remove them, which does mean the numbers in a set will be unrelated to each other.
