Vintage Inspired

Vintage Inspired gathers the quieter pieces: carved bowls, glass preserve jars, glazed pots, painted panels. These are objects that were made for a household rather than a yard, and they carry their age differently. Instead of dents and rust you get bloom on glass, silvering on teak, glaze that pooled where the kiln ran hot. The wear is finer, and it rewards being looked at closely.

This is also where we put the pieces that work in a room without any explanation. A run of blue-green French jars along a shelf reads as a light source. Three shallow teak bowls at different angles do more for a sideboard than a single large ornament. A dark glazed oil jar on the floor beside a fireplace settles the whole corner. None of it needs a farmhouse to make sense.

Where an item was never sealed for food we mark it decorative, and we mean it — decades of unsealed wood and unglazed clay absorb whatever they stood in. Care throughout the collection is minimal: keep it out of direct heat, wash by hand where washing is appropriate at all, and leave the surface alone. Everything here got its character by being left alone for a long time already.

Because so much in this collection is glass and glazed clay, packing matters more here than anywhere else on the site. Everything goes double-boxed with the piece suspended clear of the outer walls, and we photograph anything fragile before it is wrapped. It costs a little more and it means we almost never have a breakage to sort out.

This is also the collection that changes fastest. Small domestic objects come in from house clearances in unpredictable quantities — twelve preserve jars one week and none for a month — so if something has gone and you want it, tell us. We keep a short list of what people are looking for and we work through it on the road.
