Rustic Romance

When I think of the month of February immediate thoughts come to mind…

Romance, love, sweets, chocolate, candlelight dinners, on and on.  But when I asked Stan what comes to his mind, he immediately replied, “Ya baby, Superbowl Sunday!”

Even though we have different ideas about what this month represents, we do share one thing in common.  We love being together and enjoy romantic settings along with tasty foods, whether its sweet or savory.

So I decided to share with you how easy it is to create a dessert board and intimate romantic table setting.

I decided to shop our warehouse, keeping with our theme “I will not buy new.”  But you can easily shop your house and do the same, just think outside the box.

Next I looked for the perfect table.  I decided to use one of our Indian Wedding Tables because of its rustic charm.

Looking around our warehouse, I used a French laundry basket to gather some treasures, and went up and down the aisles picking items that I could use for our romantic setting.

Once I had gathered all my finds, we were ready to begin with the fun part.

Instead of a traditional tablecloth, I used a vintage European grain sack runner with a red stripe.

The next step in our process was to layer our finds.  We have a nice assortment of European bread boards, so I chose one to use as our dessert board.  I then picked a handblown pickling jar and added fresh roses to make for the perfect bouquet.

Some height was needed to display the flowers, so I grabbed a mini-Elmwood milking stool to use as the perfect riser.

Of course, no romantic evening is complete without a nice bottle of champagne (or sparkling cider).  And who needs a fancy champagne bucket when you have a vintage European cooking pot to hold your favorite beverage on ice?

Of course, a necessary part of setting the ambiance for a romantic evening are candlelights.  So, I chose these cast iron spacers as part of our rustic farmhouse decor, which are ideal repurposed candle holders.  And to make the setting colorful and mouth-watering, I visited our local small business pastry shop and picked up some yummy treats.

Creating a romantic evening doesn’t have to be expensive or time consuming.  It just takes a little creativity, ingenuity, and an eye for repurposing items around the house, or you are always welcome to shop our warehouse for fun farmhouse finds.  Happy Valentine’s month my friends!
